SHE Manager
24/05/2010Reporting to the Manufacturing Director, this is a management level role combining strategic ability with a hands-on approach to ensure the provision of a professional SHE function and activities required to reach quality systems accreditation. Management systems that will be focused on include initially ISO 9000 and subsequently ISO14000, OHSAS18000 with GMP a possibility in the future
The breadth of the role encompasses H&S, Environment, Quality (as support for the Quality Manager initially with the scope to increase this area of responsibility), Nano-regulation and lobbying and other responsibilities such as Laboratory and Waste Management.
You will need to have experience of designing, writing and implementing systems and taking a lead auditor role. Specific duties will include developing H&S strategies and internal policy for promoting H&S safe working practice, including the development of an annual SHE plan; ensuring compliance with mandatory legislation (changing working practices if necessary) including liaison with regulatory bodies and keeping up to date with new legislation; advising on fire regulations, fire drills, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases; carrying out injury and incident investigations; carrying out risk assessments; ensuring site audits are conducted and site policies and procedures are implemented and followed; leading and attending safety committees; leading in-house training for managers and employees; attending IOSH seminars; keeping records and producing statistics and management reports and managing waste disposal and emissions.
You will have a relevant qualification to degree standard, IOSH or equivalent in experience and responsibility and a QA Auditor qualification.
You will have strong management and organisational skills and be able to work autonomously. You will need to be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal and team-working skills.
